St. Francis' chief clinical officer steps down

Advertiser Staff

Dr. Jonathan Weisul, chief clinical officer for the St. Francis Health Care System, resigned this week.

"I resigned because I believe I can no longer be an effective clinical leader in the organization," Weisul said. "I can't comment whether it has anything to do with the strike (by St. Francis nurses that began Dec. 2)."

Weisul, 53, is a medical doctor who had been with St. Francis about a year. Before that, he was medical director for Maui Memorial Hospital. St. Francis officials declined to comment on his departure.

Weisul did say that he stepped down voluntarily and "it does not have to do with the financial situation of the healthcare system."

He said his immediate plan is to "enjoy the holidays." When he first began in January he was in charge of nursing, but that changed in September after a restructuring assigned those duties elsewhere.
