Duarte wins to lead bull riding

World leader Myron Duarte, a former Wailuku, Maui, resident, won the seventh round of bull riding last night at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
Duarte, who now resides in Auburn, Wash., amassed 89 points to defeat Cody Hancock of Taylor, Ariz., second with an 85, and Zack Brown of Yorba Linda, Calif., with an 84.
Duarte moved past Blue Stone, of Ogden, Utah, into the NFR lead with 437 points. Stone has 433, followed by Brown with 424.
With last night's win, Duarte collected $13,923 to increase his world standings earnings to $132,073. Stone is second with $113,694 with three more rounds in the competition.

BYUH No. 1 in NCAA II poll: As expected, the NCAA II national champion Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's volleyball team received a unanimous vote as the top team in the nation in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released this week.
The Seasiders, who were unranked to start the season, completed their climb to the top of the division by capturing the national title with a 3-0 victory over Truman on Saturday.
BYU-Hawai'i, which ended the season 27-2, will have all but one starter returning next year, including two first-team All-Americans in Yu Chuan Weng and Chun Yi Lin.

UH, KKEA radio continue: University of Hawai'i Athletic Director Herman Frazier announced yesterday an extended two-year contract agreement with KKEA/1420 AM Sports & Talk Radio that will last through the 2004-05 academic year.
Frazier said, "We are delighted to continue this partnership with KKEA."
