Space shuttle veteran Gorie to talk at UHH

HILO, Hawai'i Astronaut Dominic Gorie will be the keynote speaker Jan. 25 at the third annual Ellison Onizuka Science Day program at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo.
Gorie, a veteran of three space shuttle flights between 1998 and 2001, will speak at the 9:30 a.m. opening general assembly in the UHH Theatre. Workshop sessions will follow and the 2:15 p.m. closing general assembly at the UHH New Gym will feature demonstrations of "science magic," organizers said.
The event is a tribute to Hawai'i-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who died Jan. 28, 1986, in the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.
The free program Jan. 25 is for students in Grades 4-10 and their parents and for teachers of any grade level. Participants under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the day. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
