KARTING

• Clinic coming up: The fourth annual Memo Gidley Karting Clinic will be Jan. 4-5 at Windward Mall in Kane'ohe.

The clinic will feature classroom discussions as well as on-track tests.

Gidley, a professional racer in a variety of disciplines, will lead the clinic and offer shadowing from behind the wheel of his own Tragicmagic MG signature kart.

The Jan 4 clinic is for ages 16-younger and Jan. 5 is for 16-older. Classroom instruction is free. There is a $25 on-track registration fee to cover insurance costs. The on-track instruction will be held in the Windward Mall parking lot.

For the first time, a participant in the clinic will be selected to receive free tuition to the Jim Russell Racing School's 3-day Techniques of Racing course, worth $2,495, at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

Gidley attended the school, which provides instruction for karters who want to move to the next step of racing cars.

The clinic is organized by the O'ahu's Pacific Karting Club.
