A man was shot and killed last night on Kamehameha Highway in Waikele.

Officers were called to Kamehameha Highway between Lumiaina Street and Waipio Uka Street at about 8:20 p.m., police said. They were still looking for the shooter late last night.

Mandy Shiraki of Emergency Medical Services said the victim was a man in his 30s.

He had stepped out of his car and was shot once in the neck before his assailant fled, Shiraki said. The man then went into cardiac arrest.

Firefighters said the man appeared to have approached the car in which the assailant was riding.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the man and took him to St. Francis Medical Center West, where he died.
