Public works chief named on Big Island

Bruce McClure has been named Big Island director of public works, effective Jan. 1.
McClure is a civil engineer with the county Department of Water Supply's Water Resource and Planning Branch. He previously served as chief engineer in the Department of Public Works from June 1990 to December 1992 and as deputy chief engineer for six years before that.
McClure is a graduate of Kailua High School and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.
He succeeds Dennis Lee, who resigned to return to the Department of Water Supply as chief of operations.
The appointment is subject to final confirmation by the Hawai'i County Council.
