Armed robbery suspect facing charges

Advertiser Staff

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms will reportedly seek to charge a 32-year-old armed robbery suspect with federal violations of the Hobbs Act.

Ted Esteban, who was arrested by Honolulu police Thursday in Waipahu, is being held on warrants charging him with the Dec. 5 robbery of The Video Warehouse at 98-019 Kamehameha Highway and the Dec. 9 robbery of Aloha Island Mini Mart at 94-767 Farrington Highway, police said.

A shotgun was displayed in both those robberies.

According to police, additional charges are pending against Esteban for four other robberies in which a pistol was used Reynolds Recycling (Nov. 30) in Waipahu, Baskin-Robbins (Dec. 4) in Waipahu, Domino's Pizza (Dec. 8) in 'Ewa, and The Salvation Army Thrift Store (Dec. 11) in Waipahu.

There is a section of the federal Hobbs Act that deals with interference of interstate commerce by robbery, which would open the door for ATF to take the cases, police said.
