Waimanalo man dies after fight

A 28-year-old Waimanalo man, who was involved in an early morning fight today in Kahuku, died at Castle Medical Center after experiencing breathing problems.

Police said the fight on Kamehameha Highway occurred near the shrimp farm in Kahuku sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. It involved the man who died and a Kahuku man, 36.

Homicide detectives are involved in the investigation to determine if the man died from injuries sustained in the fight.


Boy, 16, injured in moped crash

A 16-year-old boy suffered head injuries last night when his moped collided with a car on North School Street, about 60 feet west of Houghtailing Street in Kapalama.

Witnesses told police traffic investigators that an Acura was turning left into a gas station when it was struck by a moped that had run a red light at 8:50 p.m. The moped continued on and hit a wooden utility pole. The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown off the moped after it hit the pole.

The 22-year-old woman driver of the car and her 23-year-old male passenger were not seriously injured, police said.


Ala Moana area hit by three robberies

Police yesterday investigated three armed robberies that occurred in the area around Ala Moana Center.

At 8:30 a.m., two teenaged boys, 16 and 17, were robbed by a young adult male displaying a knife at the shopping center. Police have arrested an 18-year-old boy on suspicion of robbery for that case.

At 5:20 p.m., a gunman entered a hotel room at Ala Moana and Ena Road and robbed a man. The victim was also struck on the side of the head with the gun.

The third robbery was reported at 9:01 p.m. It occurred in the rear of 911 Ke'eaumoku St. A 20-year-old man trying to purchase marijuana was robbed at gunpoint of an undetermined amount of cash. Two men and a woman fled in a black sports utility vehicle.
