UH's Allen named WAC Player of Week

Hawai'i forward Natasja Allen was named Western Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 9-15.

It was the first career WAC honor for Allen, who was named co-MVP of the Hawai'i Invitational along with teammate Christen Roper.

Allen, of Port Orchard, Wash., had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a 70-59 victory over Kentucky on Saturday and a game-high 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the tournament championship game against Nevada-Las Vegas. The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Lady Rebels, 71-66.

Allen is averaging 12.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game this season.

MORE BASKETBALL

• Chaminade wins: Leon Ballard scored 30 points, and Mike Donegan added 16 and Roy Stigall 12 as Chaminade defeated Northwest Nazarene, 84-68, last night at McCabe gym.

Donald Rogers grabbed 11 rebounds for the Silverswords, who out-rebounded the Crusaders, 43-25.

Chaminade shot 55.8 percent from the field and took a 42-29 lead at the half.

Chaminade is 3-6. Northwest Nazarene is 1-6.

• Abrahams honored: UH-Hilo guard Ryan Abrahams was picked Pacific West Conference Player of the Week yesterday.

Abrahams, a 6-3 junior from Los Angeles, averaged 16 points in two games last week, including a team-high 19 points in a 73-60 loss to the University of Hawai'i.

Abrahams is averaging 13.1 points per game.
