Warriors' Kneubuhl is best again

Advertiser Staff

Kamehameha senior Isaac Kneubuhl was named ILH Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Kamehameha senior Isaac Kneubuhl shared last season's Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys volleyball Player of the Year honors with teammate Rickey Estrada.

This season, the Player of the Year award is Kneubuhl's alone. Kneubuhl, a 6-foot-3 senior outside hitter, showed no apparent weaknesses in leading the defending state champion Warriors to a

15-1 record in the regular season and their second straight ILH title.

To win the championship, Kamehameha had to defeat previously unbeaten Iolani twice in four days. Kneubuhl led the way with 22 kills and seven blocks in the first victory and 22 more kills in the title-clinching win.

Kneubuhl is joined on the ILH all-star first team by teammates Jarrett Day (senior outside hitter), Willy Melemai (senior middle blocker) and Ainoa Miyashiro (junior setter). Three Iolani players also were selected to the first team — junior outside hitter Derrick Low, senior middle blocker Chad Miller and junior defensive specialist Michael Contee.

Maryknoll senior outside hitter Ian Woodward rounds out the first team.

Maryknoll coach Blaine Gier, who guided the Spartans to a third-place finish, is Coach of the Year.
