Search started for fisherman

Fire and police personnel last night searched for a 74-year-old fisherman who was reported missing off the Kahala Mandarin Oriental hotel.

The man was last seen standing in water about 100 yards off the hotel early yesterday evening, said HFD Capt. Kenison Tejada. But the man, who fishes two to three times a week there, failed to return at his usual time of about 6:30 p.m. and his wife called police, Tejada said.

Police found the man's car and some of his fishing gear in the Kahala Beach Park parking lot, but there were no signs of him.
