There's a new reason to give to Aloha United Way

If for some reason you have not yet made your contribution to Aloha United Way, there is still time to do so. And now, you have double the incentive to give.

The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has generously agreed to match any and all donations to the campaign up to $240,000 through Jan. 17.

The $240,000 figure represents the $480,000 shortfall the campaign is facing in this year's drive.

While the reasons for the shortfall are not unexpected (a poor economy, business downsizing, etc.) it still means that the clients served by the many charities and agencies financed by Aloha United Way will be the ones to directly suffer.

Aloha United Way is a key community building agency in Hawai'i. It doesn't simply give out money to well-meaning groups; it builds capacity within the community to help itself.

That is part of the beauty of contributing to Aloha United Way over giving to individual charities. Aloha United Way's mission is to give to organizations that have the greatest potential of changing conditions so that charity help is no longer needed.

For that reason, dollars always went a long way when contributed to the Aloha United Way.

Now, with the generous offer from the Weinberg Foundation, they will go even further.
