"Gangs of New York": Martin Scorsese directs a long-awaited epic drama, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz, about gang warfare in lower Manhattan during the Civil War era. "Heaven": Cate Blanchett sees her husband and some of her students killed by drugs, and plants a bomb to kill the drug lord. It is moved by a cleaning woman and kills four innocent people. She is devastated. During questioning, she wins the love of a rookie policeman (Giovanni Ribisi), who decides to help her escape. Opens tomorrow at The Art House at Restaurant Row. (R)

"The Last Kiss": Italian comedy about male panic at the spectre of adult responsibility. Learning that his girlfriend is pregnant, Carlo (Stefano Accorsi) lurches into an unwise liaison with an 18-year-old, while his friends are so desperate to evade responsibility they plan to buy a van and head for Africa. Opens tomorrow at The Art House at Restaurant Row. (R)

"Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers": Opened yesterday.

"Safe Conduct": A homage to the French filmmakers during the World War II German occupation of France. In French, with English subtitles. Opens tomorrow at The Art House at Restaurant Row. (Not rated; violence, sexual dialogue, complex adult themes.)

"Standing in the Shadows of Motown": Documentary looks at the session players who provided the music behind the legendary voices of Motown. Opens tomorrow at Varsity Twin. (PG)

"Two Weeks Notice": Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant star in a romantic comedy. She's an attorney and he's her boss, until she quits and then realizes she's fallen for him.
