UH rolls past New Orleans

Carl English scored 22 points to lead Hawai'i over New Orleans, 68-56, tonight in the final game of the round-robin Adidas Festival.

English, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, scored the first eight points of the game, and his 3-pointer with 9:10 left in the first half gave the Rainbow Warriors (4-1) a 24-5 lead.

Hector Romero, who led the Privateers (7-3) with 25 points, hit a basket to start the second half, capping a 9-0 run that pulled New Orleans to within 10. Later in the second half, the Privateers got within 11 points five times.

English scored 15 of his points in the first half, while teammate Michael Kuebler scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half. Vaidotas Peciukas had 11 points for the Rainbow Warriors.

Johnell Smith added 15 points for New Orleans.

Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo edged Eastern Illinois 73-70 in overtime in the night's other game.
