HONOLULU

Sewage spills into stream

An obstructed 8-inch sewer line caused about 3,350 gallons of raw sewage to overflow into Maunawili Stream yesterday, officials said.

A Department of Environmental Services crew responded at 8:38 a.m. and cleared the line by 10:13 a.m., city officials said.

The crew cleaned and disinfected affected areas, but warning signs were posted and samples were being tested for contamination.

Fire guts home on North Shore

A fire destroyed the interior of a two-story townhouse at 57-101 Kuilima West on the North Shore yesterday.

No one was hurt in the blaze, and none of the other three townhouses in the fourplex was damaged, said fire Capt. Kenison Tejada.

He said the Red Cross was contacted to help the residents — a couple and and their two teenage children — find lodging.

Firefighters were on the scene within seven minutes of the fire being reported at 4:08 p.m.
