HPU upsets No. 22 Fairbanks

Hawai'i Pacific handed No. 22 Alaska Fairbanks its first loss of the season with a 90-81 men's Division II basketball victory last night at Mid-Pacific Institute.

Marvin Noble had a game-high 29 points for the Sea Warriors (6-1), and Nic Walters and Leandro Maruoka each added 21.

The Nanooks (7-1) were led by Marquis Revels' 16 points. Five teammates also scored in double figures.

The two teams meet again at 4 p.m. today at Mid-Pacific.


MORE BASKETBALL

• Chaminade blows big lead, loses: Cal State Stanislaus outscored Chaminade 65-23 in the second half to defeat the Silverswords, 85-66, in a men's college basketball game at Turlock, Calif., last night.

The Silverwords led 43-20 at halftime, but the Warriors went from 26 percent shooting in the first half to 68 percent in the second half (20-30). Stanislaus also hit 22-of-26 free-throw attempts in the second half. Chaminade went from shooting 52 percent in the first half to 30 percent in the second half (8 of 26).

Jamal O'Quinn hit 11 of 15 field-goal attempts and scored 29 points to lead Cal State Stanislaus

Cal State Stanislaus is 4-4, Chaminade 4-7.

Leon Ballard led Chaminade with 20 points. Chaminade was called for 27 fouls to Stanislaus' 18. Two Silverswords, Mike Donegan and Bryon Sykes, fouled out and three others played with four fouls each.


MEETING

• Quarterback Club: Football, basketball and track are on the agenda for tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club at Pagoda Restaurant.

The meeting, which begins with an 11:30 a.m. lunch, features:

• Scott Sidwell, associate athletic director, Tulane University. The Green Wave is playing Hawai'i in the inaugural Hawai'i Bowl.

• Jackson Wheeler, associate coach of the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors basketball team. The 'Bows host the Rainbow Classic starting Friday.

• Carmyn James, head coach of the UH women's track and cross country teams, and Rainbow Wahine Victoria Chang.
