No arrest yet in shooting of man

Police questioned witnesses but have not made an arrest in connection with Friday's shooting of a 38-year-old Makakilo man, whose identity has not been released by the medical examiner's office. The man was shot in the chest at about 3:45 a.m.

The victim had been arrested recently by police on suspicion of auto theft and drug-related offenses.

Victim of Maui crash, 29, dies

A 29-year-old man died last night at Maui Memorial Medical Center following the crash of a pickup truck on Ha'iku Road off Hana Highway. The man was identified by Maui police as Matthew J. Bingaman.

Bingaman was a passenger in the truck driven by a 21-year-old Pa'ia man. Vehicular homicide investigators said 1997 Nissan pickup truck was traveling south on Ha'iku Road when it swerved to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle that had crossed over the center line. The truck struck a guardrail and flipped over. Bingaman was ejected from the pickup truck. He ended up being pinned by the truck.

The death is Maui's 18th traffic fatality of the year.

Hitchhiking victim ID'd

The medical examiner's office has identified the hitchhiker struck by car and killed last Monday on the H-3 Freeway as James Panini Kaliko, 39, of Kane'ohe.
