HPU sweeps No. 22 Alaska-Fairbanks

Center Leandro Maruoka had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lift Hawai'i Pacific to a 64-51 victory over Alaska-Fairbanks in a Division II men's basketball game yesterday at Mid-Pacific gym.

It was the Sea Warriors' second victory in two days over the Nanooks, who are ranked No. 22.

Maruoka, a 6-8 center from Campinas, Brazil, was 5-of-8 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Marvin Noble added 17 points and Nate Block grabbed 10 rebounds for the Sea Warriors (7-1).

Jason Williams and Chris Smith led Alaska-Fairbanks (7-2) with 13 points apiece.

HPU hosts Maryville at Blaisdell Arena at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
