Wai'alae woman arrested in theft

A 45-year-old Wai'alae woman was arrested yesterday on suspicion of stealing money from a Waikiki boutique that she managed.

The arrest was based on surveillance evidence set up by corporate office management July 27-28, police said. The woman allegedly did not register cash purchases.

She was released pending further investigation for possible indictment at a later date.

Kahe shooting victim identified

The medical examiner's office has identified the man shot Friday at Kahe Beach Park as Michael Robert Scheidt, 38. Scheidt had no permanent local address.

Scheidt was shot in the chest at close range by a high-powered rifle. There were no arrests in the case as of this morning.
