Man, daughter found safe

A 40-year-old man and his 8-year-old daughter were found at the Marine Corps Base Hawai'i at Kane'ohe tonight after they were reported overdue from a day trip to the sand bar in Kane'ohe Bay.

The 40-year-old man had left the He'eia Pier at about 3 p.m. today with his daughter on a 28-foot Bayliner boat. The man's wife said the two were due back at sunset.

But when the pair did not return, the wife reported them missing at about 6:45 p.m. A Coast Guard helicopter was joined by Honolulu Fire Department's Air One helicopter, fire boat and rescue crews in the search for the two.

At about 9:50 last night, the crew of a Navy boat found the Bayliner moored at Marine base. A Coast Guard spokeswoman said the man and girl were OK and apparently were never in trouble.
