Tulane's Scelfo gets extension
Advertiser Staff and News Services
Tulane coach Chris Scelfo received a two-year contract extension through the 2007 season. He said the agreement was reached late Christmas Eve.
In his fourth full season with Tulane, Scelfo has led the Green Wave to an 8-5 record and a 36-28 win over Hawai'i in the Hawai'i Bowl. He is the first coach in school history to lead Tulane to two bowl games. The first came in the 1998 Liberty Bowl. After the regular season, Tommy Bowden announced he had taken the coaching job at Clemson and Scelfo was promoted to head coach.
"I'm excited about the continuity of the program," Scelfo said. "Having the consistency in our program like ours is very important. If you look at the history of our program, there hasn't been consistency or continuity and that's important to us."
Scelfo is 21-27 at Tulane. He also served as assistant head coach at Georgia (1996-98) and offensive coordinator at Marshall (1990-95).
