Police Beat

Waipahu stabbings send 2 to hospital

A 40-year-old Waipahu man allegedly stabbed the manager of a drug-treatment facility in Waipahu before stabbing himself Wednesday while barricaded inside an apartment at 94-104 Pupu'ole Place.

Police Special Services Division officers used nonlethal and beanbag rounds to resolve a five-hour barricade incident.

Police said both men were in guarded condition at The Queen's Medical Center.

The manager, 47, was attacked when he tried to evict the client from the apartment for violating terms of his treatment program, police said. The suspect barricaded himself in the unit from 5:15 to 10:30 p.m.

The man had stabbed himself in the stomach and was holding a knife to his head when police responded.

Three knifed in parking lot brawl

Three people were cut with a steak knife in a brawl yesterday in the parking lot of Waimalu Shopping Center.

Assault charges are pending against one man involved in the 2 a.m. incident.

Police said a confrontation between two groups of men preceded the fight. A 21-year-old man suffered a stab wound to the back of his leg while another man, 22, was stabbed in the shoulder. A third man, 25, suffered a deep gash in his hand when he tried to grab the knife from the man who was arrested.

The three injured men were treated at the scene and released, police said.
