SATURDAY SCOOPS
Portion control key to managing calories
The Washington Post
A new year is in sight, and that means there are still many parties to attend and many more calories to consume. Just how do you keep track of all the goodies you should or should not be eating?
For those of us who are trying to portion out our consumption, here's a quick reference for portion sizes:
An ounce of cheese is about an inch square.
A half-cup is about equal to a rounded handful.
Three ounces of meat, poultry or fish are about the size of an audiocassette tape.
A quarter-cup is roughly the size of a golf ball.
A one-ounce serving of nuts, pretzels or chips is about a handful.
Happy New Year anyway!
