Kane'ohe teen dies on Big Island

Advertiser Staff

A 15-year-old Kane'ohe boy died Saturday night on the Big Island after a diving accident, police said.

Joseph Sparacio was diving with his brother and a friend off Ka'alualu Bay near South Point in Ka'u when he suffered seizures shortly after 9 p.m., Big Island police said.

Sparacio's companions brought him to shore and called 911.

They then put the boy in their car and drove him toward the main highway to meet up with police and fire department paramedics on South Point Road.

An ambulance took him to Ka'u Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

He died at 11:30 p.m.
