Buzzer-beater lifts Chicago State

Craig Franklin hit a 3-pointer from beyond the midcourt line at the buzzer to give Chicago State a 57-54 victory yesterday over Texas-Pan American in a consolation round game of the Rainbow Classic at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Cougars (3-7) inbounded the ball with 2.1 seconds left after Kevin Mitchell was able to convert only the last of a three free-throw situation for Texas-Pan American (4-10).
Franklin, the team's leading scorer, took three dribbles and let loose his game-winner.
Chicago State built an 11-point halftime lead, but Mitchell, who was shutout in the first half, rallied the Broncs with runs of 12-2 and 11-0 for a 46-44 lead.
After four ties and four lead changes and the score tied at 54, Mitchell had a chance to put Texas-Pan American ahead, but missed the first two of three free throws.

• Bradley 95, Alcorn State 68: Danny Granger scored 23 points and Bradley used a big first-half run to pull away to a victory over Alcorn State (1-9) in the consolation round of the Rainbow Classic.
Phillip Gilbert added 20 points, including nine in the 23-5 first-half run, for the Braves (3-7).
Bradley scored 16 of its 49 first-half points off 27 turnovers and set a tournament record with 20 steals. Bradley also recorded 31 assists.
Gilbert and Granger combined for 15 points in a 17-4 run at the start of the second half.
