Iolani falls in 5 OTs in Massachusetts tourney

Jeff Adrien scored five of his 26 points in the fifth overtime to lift Brookline, Mass., to a 100-96 victory over Iolani in a semifinal game at the Stop & Shop/Dan Duquette Sports Academy 2002 Classic at Chelsea (Mass.) High School on Saturday.

Iolani's Derrick Low scored a game-high 31 points.

The Raiders led 30-21 at halftime, and extended it to 42-29 on a 3-pointer by Ryan Hirata, who was 7-of-8 from 3-point range. But Brookline came back to take a 65-62 lead before a 3-pointer by Low tied the score to send it into the first overtime.

Bobby Nash scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Iolani.

Brookline defeated All Hallows, N.Y., 59-57, in yesterday's National Division final.


MORE BASKETBALL

• Chaminade routs Fontbonne: Leon Ballard hit 10 of 13 field-goal attempts and scored 21 points and Mike Ross had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Chaminade to a 107-40 rout of Fontbonne of St. Louis at McCabe Gym last night.

The Silverswords (5-7) had seven players score in double figures.

Chaminade shot 54 percent (19-35) in the first half to take a 47-23 lead. It shot 66 percent (25-38) in the second half. Fontbonne (3-5) shot 29 percent for the game.

Heath Lay led the Griffins with 16 points.

• UH-Hilo loses: Jonathan Levy scored a season-high 26 points and Lance Ray had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead host Cal State San Bernardino to a 78-59 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo in the championship game of the Sheraton-Coyote Holiday Classic last night.

Cal State San Bernardino is 3-4, UH-Hilo, 7-4.

The Vulcans led 31-26 at halftime, but hit only 9 of 29 field goals in the second half, while the Coyotes hit 20 of 33 field goals.

Osadonor Esene scored 18 points for UH-Hilo. Kyle Bartholomew had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Hyde added 12 points.


GOLF

• Kono tied for 8th: Stephanie Kono of Honolulu shot a second-round par-72 to move into a tie for first in her age group and into eighth overall in the 32nd Annual Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle yesterday at the Karsten Golf Course at Tempe, Ariz.

The 112-player field features some of the top female amateur players, ages 13-23.

Lisa Ferrero (70-73—143) of Lodi, Calif., shot a 73 to extend her lead to two strokes over the field.

Kono (78-72—150), 13, is tied in her age group with Mina Harigae (77-73—150) of Monterey, Calif., winner of the 2001 California State Women's Amateur Championship at the age of 12.

Lehua Wise of Lihu'e, Kaua'i, is tied for sixth in the 17-18 age group (76-78—154), and Kelly Nakashima of Wailuku, Maui, is 12th in the 15-16 division (82-80—162).

The final round begins today.
