Advertiser Staff

Two pedestrians injured in recent traffic accidents died Wednesday night.

The city medical examiner's office has identified the victim in Tuesday's Waikiki incident as Sidney J.L. Phelps, 32, of Honolulu.

Witnesses told police that at about 1:45 a.m., Phelps fell or dived into the roadway near the intersection of Kuhio and Uluniu avenues and then was struck by a car driven by a 37-year-old Honolulu man. Phelps was taken in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Medical examiners have not confirmed the identity of the second pedestrian. The 70-year-old Honolulu man was in an Auahi Street crosswalk when he was struck by a car at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday. He died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at Queen's.
