Chaminade names water polo coach

Ben Nary II was hired as the men's head water polo coach at Chaminade University, director of athletics Aaron Griess announced. Nary will take over the coaching duties immediately.

Nary has coached Pac-Five and Kamehameha swimming and water polo teams, and is taking over for Bruce Black, who stepped down at the end of the 2001 season.

Chaminade posted a 7-8 record in 2001.


BASEBALL

• HPU swept: Robby Poole batted 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Adam Montarbo went 4-for-5 with two RBIs as Cal State Chico beat Hawai'i Pacific, 16-11, to sweep a doubleheader Wednesday night at Hans L'Orange Park.

Cal State Chico scored 10 runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth.

In the first game, Brad Walski homered and drove in two runs as Cal State Chico beat HPU, 4-3.

Cal State Chico improved to 2-0. HPU dropped to 3-6.

• Hilo wins first: Keola Park and Douglas Nassimbene each drove in two runs as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated San Diego State, 8-4, last night at Wong Stadium, the Vulcans' first win of the season.

Hilo's Jason Castro allowed two earned runs over seven innings for the win.

Hilo improved to 1-10-1, while San Diego State dropped to 0-1.
