Eight UH athletes named All-WAC

Eight University of Hawai'i athletes received fall 2001 All-Western Athletic Conference academic honors.

The Warrior football team was represented by sophomore David Gilmore with a 3.59 cumulative grade point average in travel industry management and senior Robert Morgan III with a 3.39 in marketing.

Women's volleyball placed Jennifer Carey, a junior in general business, with a 3.33.

Women's soccer placed three: junior Wanette Miyashiro, 3.73 in elementary education-science, senior Erin Schremser, 3.88 in elementary education and junior Noelle Takemoto, 3.43 in history.

Seniors Diane Kohara, 3.63 in elementary education-science and Casey McGuire-Turcotte, 3.31 in journalism, were honored from women's cross country team.

Fresno State sophomore Erin Sayegusa, a Kaiser High graduate, with a 3.37 in liberal studies, and Nevada sophomore Leisha Makinano, an Iolani graduate, with a 3.29, undeclared, also were named in soccer.

To be eligible, an athlete must complete at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. A total of 173 athletes were named.
