Billings defeats UH-Hilo

Brian Cook scored 30 points and David Carse 28 to lift Montana State-Billings to a 95-79 Pacific West Conference basketball victory over Hawai'i-Hilo last night at Billings, Mont.

Billings, the conference leader, is 18-3 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest. Hilo is 15-6 and 5-4.

Scott Prather led Hilo with 22 points.

Cook scored 20 points to lead Montana State-Billings to an 83-74 PacWest win over Hawai'i-Hilo Friday night.

• Chaminade triumphs: Chaminade outscored Western New Mexico 9-6 in overtime for a 92-89 PacWest victory last night at Silver City, N.M.

Igor Beljanski scored 21 points and Kashif Reyes 16 for the Silverswords.

Chaminade, which also beat Western New Mexico 83-81 Friday night, is 12-8 overall, 5-4 in the PacWest. Western New Mexico is 1-15 and 0-9.


BASEBALL

• Hilo swept: Mike Moat pitched a one-hitter in a 9-0 seven-inning victory in the first game of a doubleheader sweep over Hawai'i-Hilo yesterday.

San Diego State won the second game, 7-4.

Moat struck out four and walked one. He allowed a one-out single to Daniel Rhodes in the fourth inning.

San Diego State's Chad Corona hit two two-run home runs, one in the fifth and one in the seventh and finished 3-for-4.

In the second game, the Aztecs scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning, after Hilo took a 2-1 lead in the third.

San Diego State's Carlo Cota and Hilo's Kaliko Oligo each had three hits.

Hilo is 1-13-1, San Diego State is 3-1.


SPEAKERS

• Ofahengaue returns: Tevita Ofahengaue of the Jacksonville Jaguars will return to his former elementary school tomorrow as a guest speaker.

Ofahengaue, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound tight end, will visit Hau'ula Elementary School at 12:30 p.m., and speak to students about the importance of school and staying away from drugs.

Ofahengaue played for Kahuku High School and Brigham Young University.

• Wilton at Quarterback Club: University of Hawai'i men's volleyball coach Mike Wilton and high school boys basketball coaches Daryl Gabriel of Kamehameha and Delbert Tengan of St. Louis will be the featured speakers at tomorrow's Quarterback Club.

• Wahine win: Colleen Schiman scored two goals to help the University of Hawai'i defeat its Alumnae, 9-5, yesterday at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
