Mounting pressure for The Strokes
British music magazine NME reports that heavily hyped retro-punkers The Strokes are under so much pressure to record an extraordinary follow-up to their debut CD, "Is This It," pictured above, that the band can't even think
of a name for a new song. The second track written for the upcoming CD, "Newie" or "Untitled" (the working titles so far) premiered at The Strokes' New Year's Eve gig in New York. Another new composition, "Meet Me In The Bathroom," was also premiered at the Apollo concert. The pair of songs brings the band's repertoire to 14 compositions.
Though The Strokes' 40-minute live set has typically been devoid of covers, unreleased material or an encore, the band's management told The Advertiser the group would perform both songs at its World Cafe gig tomorrow. Ticket information: 526-4400.

Bright idea for tools
After years of cranking out highly durable, highly functional multipurpose tools, the Leatherman Tool Group recently unveiled a new line of brightly colored survival tools called "Juice."
While outdoor types may chafe at the iMac-ing of their beloved tools, the company says the new tools are made to fit better into pockets and purses.
The tools retail for $60 to $94 and include standard outside opening blades, pliers and screwdrivers. They are available in thunder (purple), solar (yellow), flame (orange), glacier (blue) and inferno (red).
