For his stellar relief outings against Florida State, Hawai'i senior left-hander Aaron Pribble will get to start the second game of a three-game series against Sacramento State Saturday.
Pribble (1-0), who picked up a win after his scoreless inning of relief in last Wednesday's comeback victory against the Seminoles, pitched 7° strong innings of relief Saturday. He allowed seven hits and four runs, but three came at the end of his outing. He had eight strikeouts.
"He's left-handed so he'll give us a different look between the two hard throwers," UH coach Mike Trapasso said.
Bryan Lee will pitch Friday and freshman Ricky Bauer will pitch Sunday.
"I'm real excited," Pribble said. "I'm ready to go out there and pitch."
Pribble's previous start came last May 1 at Sacramento State. It was a pre-designated two-inning outing in which he allowed three runs. It was a midweek road game prior to a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Nevada.
But in his only other start last year, Pribble allowed one hit and a run in eight innings, while striking out six against Centenary on March 29.
The 6-foot-5, 223-pound Pribble said he had command of his fastball against Florida State Saturday and was able to throw his changeup for strikes.
His 21 appearances totaling 22· innings his freshman and sophomore years were all out of the bullpen.
The series is the Hornets' season opener.
