"Big Fat Liar": A teenager (Frankie Muniz of TV's "Malcolm in the Middle") writes an essay that is turned into a hit movie by a greedy Hollywood producer. The teen and a friend go to Hollywood to claim credit and take revenge on the producer. "Intimacy": A man and woman (Mark Rylance and Kerry Fox) meet weekly for short, brutal, anonymous sex. Eventually he follows her, discovers her real life and plays mind games with her husband. Opens tomorrow at Restaurant Row Theatres. (R)

"Metropolis": A Japanese animated sci-fi story about a plot to use humanoids to take over a vast futuristic city. Named after the 1926 Fritz Lang silent classic, based on a 1949 comic book; not a remake of the Lang film but a springboard into "A.I." territory. Opens tomorrow at Varsity Twin. (PG-13).

"Monster's Ball": Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton star as black woman and a white man who find solace in each other for their pain. Her husband is on death row; he is a guard on death row who has a hand in her husband's execution. Opens tomorrow at Ward Stadium 16-Plex. (R)

"Rollerball": A remake of the 1975 film: A few years into the future, athletes play a violent game in which players could die. Starring LL Cool J.
