Holes in one: A 9-iron works out just fine

BYRON YASUI
Dec. 27, 1991
Kiahuna Golf Club
Hole No. 16, 145 yards, 9-iron

This was my second ace.

I was in Kaua'i and was eyeballing the distance on the 16th hole. My gut told me to use a 9-iron.

On the tee, however, I learned it was 145 yards to the hole.

I was too lazy to change clubs, so I hit the 9, knock down, even though the wind was at my back.

The ball stayed low, started off toward the pond on the right, hooked back in, then bounced on the fairway, rolled and disappeared on the green.

Just the way I played it.
