Torres leads HPU baseball

Jonathan Torres batted 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to boost Hawai'i Pacific to a 7-5 victory over Arkansas Tech in college baseball last night at Hans L'Orange Park.

HPU scored three runs each in the first and fourth innings en route to its sixth straight win.

HPU is 9-9, Arkansas Tech 0-6.

SOFTBALL

BYUH splits doubleheader: The Seasiders softball team picked up its first win of the season, taking the first game of a doubleheader with Augustana (S.D.), 1-0, yesterday at La'ie.

Augustana won the second game, 5-1.

Maggie Reynolds drove in Alisha Durette with an RBI single in the third for Brigham Young-Hawai'i in the first game.

Tracy Bonomi pitched seven strong innings, not allowing a Vikings runner past second base, striking out four and allowing two hits.

In the second game, Augustana took a 5-0 lead before Brigham Young-Hawai'i scored in the bottom of the seventh.

The Seasiders are 1-3, the Vikings 3-1.

HPU splits, too: Tascha Berinobis hit a home run and had four RBIs to lead Hawai'i Pacific to a 7-3 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday at HPU Windward Field.

Stanislaus outhit HPU 12-4 in the second game for a 7-3 victory.

Hawai'i Pacific is 2-2, Cal State Stanislaus is 3-5.

UH tickets on sale: University of Hawai'i softball tickets are on sale at the Stan Sheriff Center ticket office.

Ticket prices are $3 for adults, $2 senior citizens and $1 UH students and students ages 4-18.

The Rainbow Wahine open their home season Feb. 14 against Texas-Arlington in the first day of the Chevron Paradise Classic, which also includes Long Beach State and Mercer.

Ticket prices for the tournament are $6 for adults, $4 senior citizens and $2 UH students and students ages 4-18.
