Free activities offered for disabled kids

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Centers for Independent Living is offering free weekend activities for children with disabilities.

One of the first events will be a Valentine's Day dance on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Other activities will include swimming, pingpong, movies, videos and computer games. The center has a weight room and Jacuzzi with access for the disabled, and is developing classes in Web site design.

"The whole idea is to give people an opportunity to provide support for each other, teach independent living skills and to have a good time," said youth activities coordinator Delbert Spruill.

Among its services, the Hawai'i Centers for Independent Living helps clients with peer counseling, housing referral and public education. Centers are in Hilo and Kona on the Big Island; Wailuku, Maui; Lihu'e, Kaua'i; and Honolulu.

Saturday activities begin at 11 a.m. at the All-Star Sports & Therapy Center, 418 Kuwili St., Honolulu. For more information, call 522-5405.
