Discounted tickets make opera available to all even kids

Opera should be accessible to all people, even children. So says the Hawaii Opera Theatre, which is why it's making it easier and cheaper for students to view its latest productions, "Salome," based on an Oscar Wilde play, and "Carmen."
Full-time students 24 and younger pay only $6 to attend the final dress rehearsal of "Salome," 7 p.m. Wednesday, and "Carmen," 7 p.m. Feb. 27 (wait list only), at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
The program also invites full-time college students to attend regular public performances of "Salome" on Friday, Feb. 17 and 19, and "Carmen" on March 1, 3, 5 and 7, for a low cost; $20 for any section (regular tickets typically range between $27 and $95). To purchase individual tickets, call 596-7858. Educators may purchase tickets for classes by calling 596-7372, ext. 21.
