Cruise ship to skip Lahaina

Advertiser Staff

Norwegian Cruise Line announced yesterday that the Norwegian Star will call at Kahului, Maui, instead of Lahaina through May 3. Last month, NCL began testing Kahului as an alternative to Lahaina, where passengers must be tendered to shore on small boats.

"Lack of sufficient shore-side tender support in Lahaina has prompted us to make this change on a temporary basis," NCL's president and chief executive Colin Veitch said in a statement. "We will test Lahaina again one the promised shoreside tender support is available later in the spring."

To make sure Lahaina merchants reap the benefits of 2,200 passengers coming ashore, NCL will offer free shuttles to Lahaina.
