That was the final tally after the first round of the Meadow Gold Girls State Soccer Championship Tournament yesterday at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The four O'ahu Interscholastic Association teams dominated play and outscored their Neighbor Island opponents 12-2, with each match decided by at least two goals.

The scores were: Kailua 4, Kapa'a 1; Kalaheo 3, Hawai'i Prep 1; Pearl City 3, Kealakehe 0; 'Aiea 2, King Kekaulike 0.

Yesterday's winners and No. 1 seed Mililani, which had a first-round bye, will represent the OIA in today's quarterfinals.

Kailua (10-2-2), the OIA's fifth-place team, was playing in its 14th match, while Kapa'a (4-1-1), the lone representative from the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation, was in just its sixth.

"The OIA is huge so there are a lot of games involved," Kailua coach Wil Kimura said. "From the beginning of the season till now, with all the games we have, we've improved quite a bit.

"Kaua'i has only three teams so they play each other over and over. We see so many different ways people play."

Kapa'a scored first on a breakaway goal by Jasmine Stevenson in the 24th minute.

Then, it was all Surfriders.

Freshman Anela Gonzales scored in the 36th minute when Kapa'a goalkeeper Tania Tasic came off her line and collided with a Kailua player while trying to corral the ball in front of the penalty box. Gonzales took the loose ball and scored into an open net.

Two minutes into the second half, Gonzales got behind the defense and put a shot into the left top corner of the goal.

"She's an excellent player and she's just starting," Kimura said. "She has a lot to learn yet and she's already pretty darn good."

Angela Ramelb (64th) and Carla Byers (68th) added insurance goals for the Surfriders.

• Kalaheo 3, Hawai'i Prep 1: Jenna Tomasa, Tina Garcia and Lindsey Peck scored as the Mustangs (11-2-1), the OIA second-place team, beat Ka Makani (12-5), the Big Island Interscholastic Federation's third-place team.

Tomasa's goal came on a 40-yard blast in the 19th minute.

"We talk to them (halfbacks) all the time, giving them the green light to go ahead and shoot," Kalaheo coach Alan Heu said. "Anything can happen. You never shoot, you never score."

Garcia scored on a perfectly placed cross from Peck in the 22nd minute, and Peck added a breakaway goal in the 46th minute.

• Pearl City 3, Kealakehe 0: Carmen Calpo and Chante Figueroa each had one goal and one assist, and Shayna Egloria also scored as the Chargers (10-3-1), who took fourth in the OIA, cruised past the BIIF runner-up Waveriders (12-5).

Calpo scored in the 14th minute off an assist by Figueroa, and Figueroa scored off Calpo's assist in the 47th minute. Egloria scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.

"They're a fourth-place team?" Kealakehe coach Garolyn Akiona asked. "They're a very strong team. They played much better than we did."

Unten scored unassisted in the 21st minute and Jungblut scored off Unten's cross in the 50th.
