FUN HOUSE
A child's view of heaven on earth

Submitted by Gina Loveland, Wahiawa

My Auntie Lucy and my young son had a very special bond. When she died, I had to think of a way to explain to a 4-year-old why he was not going to see his beloved aunt anymore. I told him that God had called her to live with him in heaven. He accepted the explanation with a knowing nod.

On the day of Auntie's funeral services, I explained to my little boy that we were going to say goodbye to Auntie Lucy. Again, he accepted the explanation without question. I was glad to be able to communicate with my young son.

As we walked up a little grass hill toward the mortuary, I saw my son scan the grounds all around us with great interest. I asked what it was that interested him so much. Without stopping his scrutiny, he said with a new awareness: "So this is heaven."
