Creatures come to life at museum

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

Families can see a giant woolly mammoth and other prehistoric creatures seemingly come alive at Bishop Museum's "Life Through Time: From T.rex to Sabretooth," a new exhibit featuring robotic dinosaurs and mammals dating back 3 million to 60 million years.

"Time machine tours" will guide visitors through the display and put into perspective the time periods the animals existed. Nearly a dozen models of animals, including a furry ground sloth and a hornless rhino, become mobile thanks to computer-controlled air compressors.

Organizers are also planning sleepover adventures for families in March at the exhibit; details will be announced later. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit, which runs through May 12, is part of the paid museum admission. For more information, call 847-3511.
