HPU beats PacWest conference leader

Nash Subotic scored 14 points, and Leandro Maruoka, Alvin Stephenson and Jeff Jensen each added 10 as Hawai'i Pacific beat Montana State-Billings, 73-51, in a Pacific West Conference game last night at Mid-Pacific Institute Gym.
It was the second consecutive victory for the Sea Warriors over the conference-leading Yellowjackets.
HPU improved to 16-6 overall and 7-3 in conference. Montana State-Billings fell to 19-5 and 9-4.
The Sea Warriors held the Yellowjackets to 31.6 percent shooting from the field (18-of-57).
HPU held a 48-29 advantage in rebounding.
The Sea Warriors led 31-25 at halftime, then outscored the Yellowjackets 42-26 in the second period.
Montana State-Billings didn't help itself making just 3 of 22 3-point attempts in the game.
BYU-Hawai'i 80, Western New Mexico 69: Alexus Foyle scored 24 points and Keli'i Naihe added 17, leading the Seasiders over the Mustangs last night at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.
BYUH raced to a 40-27 halftime lead and held off Western New Mexico to improve to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in the PacWest.
Joey Ramirez hit 9 of 13 3-pointers and scored 35 points to lead the Mustangs, who fell to 1-18 and 0-13.
Scott Salisbury grabbed nine rebounds as BYUH out-rebounded the Mustangs 45-38.
Chaminade 74, Hawai'i-Hilo 62: Kashif Reyes scored 19 points, Igor Beljanski added 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Albert Powell had 10 points as the Silverswords beat the Vulcans in a PacWest game at Kaimuki High gym.
Chaminade (14-9, 6-5) led 36-22 at halftime and held off the Vulcans (16-7, 6-5) by making 17 of 20 free throws after intermission.
Scott Prather scored 19 points, Brady Hyde 14 and Derek Mgbeke 13 for the Vulcans.
