Motorcyclist killed on dangerous road

By Karen Blakeman

A 47-year old motorcyclist was killed yesterday when she failed to negotiate a curve on Kaukonahua Road, one of the most dangerous roads on O'ahu.

The woman appeared to have been traveling too fast along the road between Waialua and Wahiawa and ran head-on into an oncoming car, police said.

The car driver, a 27-year-old woman, was not seriously injured and did not require medical care, police said.

The motorcyclist was dead at the scene. She had a listed address on the Windward side.

The winding Kaukonahua Road is well known to police as a dangerous and potentially fatal stretch. More than 20 people have died on the road since 1994.

Yesterday's accident was the second of the year on Kaukonahua Road. On Jan. 9, a driver was killed when he collided with another car.
