PAPA'IKOU, Hawai'i — A 20-year-old man from North Hilo died Saturday night after his car flipped in front of Kalaniana'ole School. Two passengers were hurt.

Police said Bobby Ishikawa of O'okala was heading south in his 1997 Acura Integra at 11:40 p.m. when he crossed the centerline, ran off the left shoulder and struck a dirt embankment.

He was thrown from the car and died of head injuries.

Louie Taasan, 21, and Lawrence Cacabelos, 21, of Papa'aloa were treated for scrapes and released.

None was believed to have been wearing seat belts, said police Sgt. Samuel Jelsma.

Jelsma said high speed and alcohol appeared to have been involved.
