Search resumes for Kane'ohe woman

Advertiser Staff

A fire department air rescue crew today resumed searching for a woman missing in Kane'ohe, but police search teams working yesterday were unavailable to join on the ground.

Marleen McCallum, 39, was reported missing yesterday at 11:44 a.m. by members of her family, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Richard Soo.

McCallum's family said she has not been seen since Sunday. McCallum is a member of the Hope Chapel on Po'okela Place in Kane'ohe, and her van was found yesterday in the church's parking lot.

Yesterday, 10 firefighters from a rescue company and a ladder company, 12 police officers and three police dogs began searching for McCallum. Police and fire helicopters also took part, Soo said.

The search in the Ha'iku area near the former Omega Tracking Station near H-3 lasted until dark. Police SWAT teams were in training today and unavailable for the search, said Detective Joe Self.

Also yesterday, HFD personnel rescued an injured hiker on the Wai'oma'o Trail in the upper Palolo Valley, Soo said.

Soo said the 17-year-old girl, visiting from Rhode Island, hiked into the area at about noon with two men, ages 17 and 25.

She experienced breathing problems, and her companions called for help at 3:42 p.m., Soo said.

All three hikers were airlifted out. The girl was given oxygen and taken, in stable condition, to Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children, Soo said.
