BYUH tennis team beats No. 1 HPU

Spurred by a sweep in the doubles competition, the No. 3-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawai'i men's tennis team upset top-ranked Hawai'i Pacific University, 5-4, yesterday in a battle of NCAA Division II powers at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The Seasiders improved to 6-0 on the season. The Sea Warriors, whose only other loss is to Division 1 No. 9 Southern Methodist, fell to 6-2.
BYUH took a 3-0 lead after the doubles play, but HPU rallied in singles eventually tying the score 4-4 with one singles match still in progress.
Soon after, Jan Krejci clinched BYUH's win with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 victory over HPU All-American Mikael Maata in the No. 1 singles match.
FENCING
National event here: The United States Fencing Association's Hawai'i Division will play host to the 4th annual National Fencing Competition, Saturday and Sunday at the Blaisdell Center.
Competition starts at 8 a.m.
Fencers from Hawai'i, Japan and the Mainland will compete in foil, epees and sabre. Admission is free.
