Warriors third after first day of Burns golf

Sophomore Matt Kodama shot a 3-under-par 69 yesterday as the University of Hawai'i-Manoa stood in third place after the first round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament at Leilehua Golf Course.
The Warriors shot an even-par score of 288, their lowest score of the season, to trail only San Diego State (274) and New Mexico (287) in the 20-team field.
Also contributing to UH's strong showing were senior Norman-Ganin Asao (71), junior Jaime Matsumura (73), and freshmen Kellen-Floyd Asao (75) and Manarii Gauthier (75).
Kodama is tied for third in individual competition. John Lieber of San Diego State shot a 7-under 65 and Kevin Haefner of Auburn a 68.
The three-day tournament continues today at 7 a.m.

Coaching clinic set: The 7th annual Nike Hawai'i Football Clinic will be held at Turtle Bay Resort, March 1-3.
Early registration fee by Monday is $80 per coach; $90 thereafter.
