THE LEFT LANE
Olympic tune-in

Worries that the Olympics mean relatively little to younger viewers have been dispelled by the current Winter Games, which are scoring across-the-board gains in various age groups.

Buoyed by record-breaking viewership for the opening ceremony Feb. 8, overall viewing of the Games' first week was up 29 percent from the first six days of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

With all eyes on American figure skater Michelle Kwan Tuesday, NBC's Winter Olympics ratings soared to their highest since the opening ceremonies. An estimated 32.7 million people in the United States have been viewing at any given minute.
