Shakespeare gets a hip-hop twist

Shakespeare and hip-hop. Though it sounds like an unlikely pairing, children and adults alike can see this curious combination in Honolulu Theatre for Youth's version of the classic tragedy, "Othello," playing 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. March 9, 16 and 23 at Tenney Theatre.

In HTY's rendition, recommended for children 10 and up, rapping, dancing and music by a turntable-spinning deejay are incorporated into the play. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for students (with high school or college ID), and $5 for children 12 and under and seniors over 60. The 4:30 p.m. March 16 show will be sign-interpreted.
