The National Weather Service said the cold air associated with an upper level trough will remain in the islands for several days. Cold air on top of warm tropical air makes the atomsphere unstable.
Translation: Wetter tradewind weather than normal, said National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Powell.
The weather service had expected wetter conditions today but this morning canceled a flood watch on the Big Island and Maui, Powell said.
"There is still the potential for heavy showers on the Big Island through Tuesday night but not flooding potential," he said.
Tradewinds today and tomorrow will be strong, 15 to 30 mph, decreasing to 10 to 25 mph by Friday.
